SI Redefinition – voted!

Accesări: . Publicat:16.11.2018

A historic milestone! Today, on 16 November 2018, at Versailles, France, the redefinition of four of the seven SI units (the kilogram, the ampere, the kelvin and the mole) was voted unanimously. Thus, the definitions of all the units of the revised SI are now linked to physical constants, which will guarantee their stability and universality.

The International System of Units SI has its origin back in 1875 with the signing of the international Metre Convention when 17 foundation signatory States formally agreed to accept a common international measurement system. The Republic of Moldova is a signatory of the Metre Convention since 2005, when it adhered to the General Conference on Weights and Measures of the International Organization of Metrology ”Metre Convention” as an Associated Member.

Today, the SI is the legal system of units in use in almost all countries around the world. This revision of the SI is the culmination of many years of intensive scientific cooperation between the National Metrology Institutes and the BIPM.
