    The Law on the adoption of metric system of weights and measures is promulgated in Romania by the ruler Alexandru Ioan Cuza

  • 1883

    Romania adheres to the Meter Convention

  • 1954

    The X General Conference on weights and measurements (Conférence Générale des Poids et Mesures, CGPM) takes place

    The CGPM, taking into account its decision from 1948, adopts the base units of the practical system of units

  • 1955

    The Republican Laboratory of Moldova for State Surveillance is created

  • 1960

    The XI General Conference on weights and measurements, taking into account the CIMP recommendations decides to rename this system into the International System of Units - SI.

  • 1961

    Romania adopts SI

  • 1963

    USSR adopts SI (GOST 9867-61)

  • 1977

    The Standardization and Metrology Center of Moldova is created

  • 1992

    The Governmental Institution “Standardization and Metrology Center of Moldova” founded by the State Department for Standards and Metrology of the Republic of Moldova, is registered

  • 1998

    The name of the institution is changed to “National Center for Standardization, Metrology and Certification” (NCSMC)

  • 2002

    NCSMC is reorganized in “National Institute for Standardization and Metrology” (NISM)

  • 2013

    The National Institute for Metrology is founded as a public institution with attributions in the field of legal metrology and maintenance of the National Measurement Standards Database.
